Controls Engineer

Automatic Feed Company is currently seeking applicants for an Controls Engineer position. This position will require a highly skilled and knowledgeable individual who will do the following:

  1. Coordinate all controls engineering for product lines
  2. Act as primary engineering consultant for the production employees during the wiring process
  3. Perform in-plant start-ups; and
  4. Finalize documentation after project completion

Those interested should have an associates or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science related fields. Additionally, programming experience will be required. This individual must be willing to travel.

This individual must be willing to travel approximately 20-25% of the time. Time spent traveling will be compensated.

Industrial Controls Technician

Qualifications:
Able to interpret PLC ladder logic and troubleshoot electrical control systems including
AC & DC circuits, PLC’s, networks, VFD’s, and HMI’s using a laptop including Allen Bradley, and Siemens brands.

  • 2 years’ experience in industrial electrical controls or educational equivalent suggested
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Code and reference the code when suggested
  • Familiar with electrical symbols
  • Able to read and update electrical and schematics
  • Ability to operate power shop tools as well as common hand tools
  • Solid PC computing & networking skills
  • Ability to take initiative and to engage in continued growth and development to learn new technologies
  • Ability to effectively perform formal root cause analysis
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • PLC ladder logic programming experience is desired
  • Ability to use AutoCAD to create & modify electrical prints

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot AC/DC controls, 3 phase power distribution, and industrial machine controls with or without a schematic
  • Wire transformers, drives, motors, and other industrial electrical equipment
  • Maintain required records, including maintenance work orders, PLC program documentation and electrical drawings and open issues lists
  • Assist with new equipment electrical installation and upgrades
  • Able to communicate to customer maintenance and operators as the projects requires
  • Must be able to respond to plant emergencies
  • Follow company standards and safety regulations
  • Identifies & communicate any unsafe conditions

Software Developer

Essential Functions:

Utility / General Laborer

Essential Functions:

  • Painting
    • Stock cabinets with gallons of paint for upcoming jobs
    • Reduce paint to proper consistency for air gun use
    • Load paint booth with parts that need painting; place parts on fixtures (e.g. saw horses)
    • Paint equipment using air guns (or aerosol cans for touch-up)
    • Remove parts from paint booth after drying, using forklift if necessary.
    • Maintain and clean air guns, paint pots, etc. with gun cleaner or enamel reducer.  Clean air hoses regularly.
    • Maintain and clean respirators per manufacturer’s instructions.
    • Replace filters in paint booth periodically; replace paper floor covering in paint booth periodically.
  • Prepping
    • Place parts at a comfortable working height using slings, chains, overhear cranes, tables, etc., if possible.
    • Use high pressure steam cleaner to remove dirt and oils on parts prior to painting, if necessary
    • Mask off machined surfaces to prevent from being spray-painted; remove masking tape when complete.
  • Parts Moving
    • Operate forklift truck
    • Complete pre-operational forklift checklist
    • Deliver parts to appropriate area
    • Make proper notations on shop set,
  • Sweep floors around machines.  Throw away trash found on floors.
  • Pick up and properly store chains, slings, clamps, hoses, tools, etc.
  • Ensure that paint is evenly coated without runs and of high quality.
  • Gather rags and put in proper container
  • Take cardboard boxes to baler.  Operate baler.  Empty cardboard baler when full.
  • Build wooden crates for shipping.
  • Make sure correct paint (i.e. color, tint, etc.)  is used for each job and painted according to color codes
  • Keep engineering drawings with parts at all times if applicable
  • Know and understand the safe operation of all equipment used
  • Drive straight truck and/or tow motor as needed Follow all quality work instructions, procedures.  Obey all plant safety rules
  • Wear the proper personal protective equipment; make sure it is properly fitted and maintained.
  • Responsible to complete all work in timely manner
  • Ensure parts are available
  • When repair maintenance is required, complete maintenance request form.
  • Communicate nonconforming product to Department Manager.
  • Inspect and properly prepare product to be painted, making appropriate notation on drawing and returning drawing to designated area.
  • Properly handle and store steel
  • Properly handle, move, and store materials/parts in the following areas:
    • Parts after painting.
    • Incoming parts
    • Parts from the Napoleon Machine to Assembly.
    • Parts and materials to other designated areas.
  • Transport (non) hazardous waste to Waste Building; make sure containers are properly labeled.  Authorized to have access to Hazardous Waste Storage Building. Must be trained in Spill Response.
  • Must be trained on the proper handling and storage of propane tanks
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have taken and passed forklift operator course.
  • Must have an understanding of steel color-coding and keep steel yard organized.
  • Must have the ability to sandblast, perform finish painting, and perform various jobs throughout the plant.
  • Must be clean-shaven when wearing respirator to perform painting.

Work Environment:

  • Work environment is typical of that associated Assembly.
  • Employee is subject to dust, paint mist, organic vapors, weld fume, oils.
  • Heat can be a factor in the summer, especially while painting, cold while moving parts outside.
  • Noise levels are elevated during grinding, sanding, and painting.
  • Forklift trucks and overhead cranes are available for aid in lifting and moving heavy pieces.
  • Lighting is very good in paint booth and assembly areas.

Normal plant environment.  Contact with dirty and oily surfaces is likely.  Long periods of standing on concrete floors is the norm.  May be required to work in extreme temperatures:  high heat and humidity in summers and cold temperatures when working on customer plant startups.  Noise levels in plant normally are low; but high noise levels can be expected when working in customer stamping plants, or at our plant when grinding, drilling, and hammering, etc.  Safety glasses and steel toe shoes are required.  Hearing protection, hard hats may be required at customer plant.

Mechanical Assembly

Job Description:

Assembles machines, equipment, and their subassemblies, such as coil carts, uncoilers, pinch roll units, peeler holddowns, straighteners, levelers, feeders, and automatic stackers, following blueprints and other written and verbal specifications: Plans assembly procedures, following specifications and using knowledge gained by experience.  Rebuild and repair machines and equipment using hand tools and power tools. Removes small quantities of metal, using hand files or portable grinders to clean parts or to produce close fit between parts.  Drills, taps, or reams holes, using drill press or portable drill.  Aligns components and bolts, screws or rivets them together, using hand tools or portable powered tools.  Installs moving parts, such as shafts, rolls, levers or bearings, and works them to test free movement.  May bend and install pipe for hydraulic and lubrication systems.  May align and mesh gears in gearbox to assemble system of gears.  May test or assist in testing operation of completed product.  May perform cleaning and painting of equipment.  Disassemble equipment and prepare equipment for shipment to customer plant.  May install equipment in customer plant.  Perform mechanical troubleshooting

  • Must know how to use all basic hand and power tools and precision measurement devices, including calipers, verniers, and micrometers.
  • Must have own hand tools.
  • Must have knowledge of air and hydraulics.
  • Must have experience in welding techniques, primarily MIG welding, vertical and horizontal.
  • Must be willing and able to go on service calls.

Human Resources Generalist

Automatic Feed Company is seeking an individual who possesses an Associates’ Degree in Business or related field, or 3-5 years’ experience as an HR Assistant. This individual must have a good understanding of employment law and HR practices. The candidate would be responsible for the following:

STAFFING & RECRUITMENT

  1. Assist in selection process.
  1. Post job openings internally when applicable.
  2. Conduct a search for candidates who satisfactorily meet the job requirements for the position, using advertisements, social media, internet job posting sites, company web site, temporary staffing agencies, recruiters, attending job fairs, posting open positions on college job boards, and per suing resumes on file.
  3. Contact candidates to set up interview dates and times.  Coordinate with hiring manager.
  4. Interview candidates.
  5. Administer skills testing of applicants when applicable.
  6. Check references of previous employers.
  7. Order background checks for convictions of felonies and misdemeanors for all new hires.
  8. Schedule post-offer physical examinations and drug tests.
  9. Make offers for employment to chosen candidates; prepare rejection letters to unsuccessful candidates for employment.
  10. Conduct new hire orientation, including the completion of all necessary employment forms.

RECORDS / DOCUMENTATION MAINTENANCE

  1. Maintain personnel files (both physical and HRMS) and employee medical files. 
  2. Make necessary changes of duties and responsibilities for all job classifications.
  3. Maintain spreadsheet of union and salaried employees’ vacation hours
  4. Enter daily job cards and prepare report for weekly updates.
  5. Follow up with managers and employees on any errors or missing time.

PAYROLL PROCESSING

  1. Edit timecards
  2. Process payroll weekly for union/non-salaried team members.
  3. Complete the ACH transmittal process.
  4. Distribute pay stubs to appropriate managers.

PLANT SAFETY

  1. Serve as a member of the Safety Committee.  Prepare and distribute meeting minutes.
  2. Assist with monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and exit routes.
  3. Maintain VOC database.
  4. Issue lockout locks & tags.
  5. Order PPE (e.g. sleeves) when requested.  Collect electrical gloves for inspection.  Redistribute.

OTHER HUMAN RESOURCES FUNCTIONS

  1. Serve as a member of the company’s Contract Negotiation Team; represent the company’s interests during contract negotiations.  Responsible for taking notes during negotiations with the union, preparing written proposals, counter-proposals, tentative agreements, and making the final changes and publication of the Final Agreement.
  2. Coordinate company’s wellness activities; such as blood pressure, cholesterol screens, glucose, hearing tests, influenza immunizations, brown-bag lunch meetings, etc.  Schedule make-up screening, if necessary.
  3. Assist with plant tours (high schools, trade schools, teachers, etc.)
  4. Investigate claims of harassment.
  5. Assist with planning and organizing company events, such as retirement parties, picnics, year-end golf outing.
  6. Assist with recognizing birthdays and anniversaries.
  7. Counsel team members on intent & interpretation of Company policies.
  8. Administration of employee benefits; Open Enrollment.
  9. Communicate with outside vendors and insurance carrier’s Customer Service.
  10. Assist with development of policies.
  11. United Way Campaign organizer.
  12. Update electronic communication boards on a weekly basis.
  13. Make application for TechCred; Submit for reimbursement.

Assembly Technician

Assembly Technicians build and wire all of the equipment designed by our Engineers. Mechanical Assembly team members will build our customizable equipment to meet our customer specs while Electrical Assembly team members build the needed electrical control systems that allow our equipment to function as required to meet our customers’ needs. Service Technician

Join our Service team! Members of the Service team work closely with both our Customers as well as most of our internal departments. Service team members assist our customers by performing field service, customer support, training, equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance, and providing 24/7 support, as well as supplying repair parts to keep our customers up and running as efficiently as possible.

Administrative Staff
